After finishing a few projects with the help of Pam’s parents, it was time for lunch. We decided to hit a nearby Thai food place and pushed Pam’s parents out of their comfort zone. Khun Kay Thai has a diverse menu and some great off the menu specials. If you happen to be vegetarian, they have an entire menu for you.
Pam and her mother ordered the seasonal special ~ Pumpkin curry chicken ~ which is a red curry with coconut milk and Thai pumpkin. There is a hint of spice that backs up the creamy coconut milk and curry sauce. It is Pam’s favorite Thai dish.
Jeff and Pam’s father ordered the Ka-Prao (Thai basil) beef. This dish has thinly sliced beef with onion, jalapeño, green pepper, carrot and basil. Jeff ordered it a 5 on the spicy scale or ‘Thai Spicy’ while Pam’s father got it a little more down the scale (closer to a 1). Any way you order this dish, it is a nice combination of beef and veggies with a nice dose of basil.
Our daughter ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken, and it was a classical approach to the dish with heavily battered chicken and a sweet sauce. Served with brown rice, she loved it and almost cleaned her plate.
Khun Kay Thai has a small selection of wine and beer, for those that want to indulge. If you work downtown, this is close enough to run for a quick lunch or grab it on your way home for dinner.
